What a qualified electronic signature is

A qualified electronic signature (QES) is the highest signature level defined by the EU’s eIDAS regulation. A qualified trust service verifies the signer’s identity against a government-issued passport or ID card. The signature then has the same legal effect as a handwritten signature in the EU, making it suitable for legally binding contracts and other important documents. Understanding how electronic and digital signatures compare helps you choose the right option for each document.
